Martham Academy remembers...

This morning the children and staff from years Reception - 6 attended a Remembrance Service in St. Mary's Church. As the pupils entered they all planted a poppy in sand trays before taking their seats. Martham's newly appointed Reverend Dr Steven Sivyer conducted the service with the Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Mrs Mary Coleman in attendance too. The congregation were in fine voice singing along to various hymns between readings from our Senior pupils . Choral Society treated us to a beautiful song called The Poppy Red before we all undertook the 2 minutes silence. Retired Lieutenant Commander Mr John Mules addressed everyone with a moving talk, helping us to gather our thoughts to remember those who had passed in the First World War, 100 years ago. Our service then concluded with a rendition of The National Anthem.
